Now
in its fifth year, Wall Street Rising has renewed the
Do It Downtown! Discount Card program for 2006. The Do
It Downtown! Program was originally launched in the winter
of 2002, to help Lower Manhattan businesses recover from
the devastating effects of the September 11 terrorist
attacks. The program has been a tremendous success, with
over 500,000 cards distributed, and many Downtown businesses
have reported significantly increased sales from card-holders.
By encouraging people to visit Lower Manhattan to discover
and patronize our exciting and varied restaurants, stores,
and businesses, the program has brought much needed foot
traffic to the area.
Although
the Do It Downtown! Program technically ended on December
31, 2002 , Wall Street Rising has renewed it, because
it continues to help people discover and enjoy our local
businesses. At this time, numerous major infrastructure
projects are underway, which often make it difficult for
pedestrians to patronize Downtown businesses. In addition,
major redevelopment projects are scheduled to start in
the coming months and years, which will cause obstacles
for customers seeking to gain access to businesses. The
discount card will continue to provide an extra incentive
for people to shop in our stores, dine in our restaurants,
visit our hotels and inns, and patronize all of our wonderful
Downtown businesses.
At
this time 70 merchants have agreed to accept the discount
card through the end of 2006. Download a card and a list
of participating merchants and you are ready to start
saving!
