ART DOWNTOWN
June 14 to September 15, 2002


ART DOWNTOWN was an unprecedented art event featuring over 110 works of world renowned contemporary painters, sculptors and photographers presented in five buildings in New York's historic Financial District. Participating artists included: Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Louise Bourgeois, Francesco Clemente, Chuck Close, Jenny Holzer, Alex Katz, Donald Judd, Jeff Koons, Roy Lichtenstein, Elizabeth Murray, Julian Schnabel, and renowned photographers such as Tina Barney, Vanessa Beecroft, Cindy Sherman, William Eggleston, Nan Goldin, Robert Mapplethorpe, Thomas Struth, Wolfgang Tillmans, and William Wegman were also exhibited.  All locations were in close proximity and could be viewed during a leisurely walk through the neighborhood. The exhibit was curated by Richard D. Marshall, formerly of the Whitney Museum of Art.

The Exhibit Hours Were:
Tuesday- Friday 11am-8pm*
Saturday and Sunday- 11am-6pm*



Exhibition Locations were:

  • New York Painting & Sculpture at 48 Wall Street
  • New Photography at 25 Broad Street
  • Sculpture Installation by John Chamberlain at 60 Wall Street
    (*Monday-Friday until 7pm. Closed weekends.)
  • Children's Art at 45 Wall Street featuring artworks from over 11 Lower Manhattan schools celebrating their Downtown neighborhoods.
  • Monumental Paintings by Julian Schnabel at One New York Plaza
