If your employees regularly work in confined spaces then its now a legal requirement for you, the employer, to make sure that they receive appropriate confined space training.
This training covers many aspects of working in confined spaces including safe entry and exit, how to use equipment such as ropes and respirators safely and, of course, what to do in the event of an emergency.
Confined space training is also available for managers but this tends to be more classroom based and covers the legal and paperwork aspect of the working in confined spaces. For example, most courses cover current safe working practices, legislation and things such as how to correctly issue work permits.
Confined space training is no longer a ‘nice to have’, if you employ workers who have to operate in such environments, say cleaning tanks or working in grain silos then you are responsible for their health and safety. Make sure that you get adequate confined space training and that you enable to to work in a safe and stress free environment.
